AWDC club meet 21/03/04
Set up by Mark Edwards
Clark of course Ray Edwards
The morning started with keeping it simple, the day before
was extremely wet when setting up sections. This we warned the competitors
about, in the driver briefing.
We had canes but no whitetops and 2 packs of red tops
and no scorecards. With red and white bunting tape and some home made
cards made on the computer, the event could go ahead. Although mums
tomato plants are now on the floor with no canes supporting them.
The aim was to set up and complete 12 sections, which
we did. Six before and 6 after lunch. Due to the rain, even the flat
grass field was hard enough so that was the setting for the first
2 sections.
Already people where getting points. The third was a bit
more daring with a steep drop into the sand pit. This was finished
with a tight but manageable 3,2,1 gate.
Section 4 and 5 where a little bit wet and slippery. Slippery
when wet! Section 6 being very slippery with sum people struggling
to get to the 10 gate which even I had trouble with. Not to worry,
I widened the 10 gate to only 30 feet. The choice is yours?
With the weather being as English as it could be, when
to take your turn on a particular section was becoming critical. Lunchtime,
a quick change round of a couple was the setting of sections after
lunch had finished.
The next 3 where quite easy although some will disagree.
Towards the end it was time to make things a little harder. Section
11 had Jeckle and Hide character going on with the start being a small
hole to enter, plain grass field followed by traversing 2 ditches.
Originally driving with 3 put due to a landy unfortunately bending
the steering arm decided we couldn't use the middle ditch. Just goes
to show that a Suzuki with a LOA (fitted at Rhino Rays) does work.
Ray set up section 12 while I was collecting canes.
The event scores where close. In joint overall was Richard
Shirley in his Suzuki sj413 and a guy in a landy on 3 points. 1st
in class 6 (open) was Barry (baz) in his Zebberdy Suzuki. 1st in class
1 was won by the only modified there, good that at least someone made
the effort.
Pleased that everyone had fun, enjoyed themselves.
People saying how well set up it was. Now we're just looking forward
to the next one.
